Madonnari Mural

Murals of Baltimore was contracted by the Little Italy Neighborhood Association with support from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Southeast CDC to create a mural about Madonnari in Little Italy, Baltimore. The mural is cumulation of the work of MoB and their work as a Madonnaro over 25 years. Images that are depicted in the mural are designs he created to win the Grazie di Curtatone Madonnari Festival a number of years ago. The Madonnari Festival in Italy awarded MoB the title of Maestro Madonnaro for these designs.

The mural is inspired by MoB’s fascination with the Renaissance. The architectural tromp l’oeil is based off of Renaissance architecture and ideas. The theme of the mural is Motherhood and depicts mothers in various states. The mural was created on the façade of the new Madonnari Gallery in Little Italy

Every year in September MoB produces a Madonnari festival in Little Italy and invited many of his fellow Madonnari from around the world to Baltimore.

The mural is located at 227 Slemmer’s Alley in Baltimore, Maryland.
